To say that our first-time homebuyer experience with Christel was disappointing would be an extreme understatement. We ended up making an offer on the second home we viewed. Christel was quite rude and uninvolved throughout this process. As first-timers, we needed someone who would explain what we were signing and why. Instead, she had us read and sign the documents by ourselves and responded with sarcastic remarks when we asked questions. We stressed that we needed 3% of our closing costs paid for by the sellers in order to be able to afford the home. She assured us that this was properly listed on the contract and showed us the location of the request. The sellers and bank (it was a short sale) ended up accepting our first offer and supposedly our closing cost stipulation. Before even seeing the official bank approval letter, she told us we had to immediately get an inspection on the home. Well, $1,500 later, we find out that closing costs were never even part of our accepted offer. She filled out our purchase contract incorrectly, placing the closing costs in the wrong spot. The sellers and bank never had a clue that we wanted closing costs. In speaking with Christel, she could "not recall" if she ever verified our complete offer with the seller's agent or bank. She wanted us to sign the BINSR , stating that we didn't want the home because of inspection issues(not true!). When the idea of her contributing part of her commission to make up for her mistake was brought up, she said that she "has bills to pay," as if losing our dream home because she failed to properly do her job was no big deal. Then we called her broker, who had heard nothing of the situation until I shared. The broker investigated and said that we would be given closing costs (out of Christel's would-be commission), a new REALTOR, and they would pay for our warranty. We were later told that Christel had contacted the escrow and seller's agents and told them that we had changed our minds and didn't want the house anymore! They were suspicious and called the broker. She was fired from the agency due to her dishonesty. If you want a diligent, friendly, hardworking, trustworthy agent, please think twice about hiring this REALTOR. What a nightmare.
